Optimizing WordPress Trash Settings

Optimizing WordPress Trash Settings

Many are the times when important posts,pages,comments and attachments maybe deleted from WordPress only to realize how important they are. This should not make you panic because the trash feature in wordpress makes you recover them for as long as 30days after deletion. However  prolonged periods of trash saved might affect your database performance, supposing your website receives lots of traffic thereby slowing it down.

The recovery period of these contents maybe reduced to a shorter period of time so that they are not kept as trash for a long period of time.

The following steps show how time can be optimized;

  • Login to cpanel
  • Click on file manager to open
  • Navigate to wp-config.php file and click edit

  • Define the (’empty – trash-days’ )by replacing X with a number. This number defines the interval the trash will be kept as trash once recovered. If you put a zero it means no recovery will be done.
  • Click save
