How to move your wordpress blog to a hosting plan

Maybe after some time of using WordPress blog as your personal website, you’ve decided to move a step further and acquire your own domain and hosting plan. But over the years, you’ve been writing posts and pages that are so cool you cannot afford to discard them and start afresh. Plus, why would you do that? It’s your content and you took time developing. Well, the good news is that, WordPress doesn’t deny you a means to carry your content as you move. Here’s how to move your posts, images, pages and everything from WordPress blog to your new WordPress designed platform.

Step 1: Log in to your blog, go to My Site >> Settings >> Export

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2: Once you click on Export, you will have several options. You can choose to export everything or just portions of your blog. To export everything, click on Export All. To export specific parts of the blog, click on the drop down just after Export All button and select the posts you want to import based on the criteria provided

Step 3: When you export, you’ll get a .zip file which you will download.

 

 

 

 

 

Step 4: Now, we will import the Downloaded file to your new platform. Access your WordPress admin area. Go to Tools >> Import. You will then need to select an importer that will be used to import the downloaded file. We will use the importer called WordPress.

Click Install Now to install it

 

 

 

 

 

Step 5: Then extract the zip file on your computer to get a folder. Inside the folder, you’ll find a .xml file.

Step 6: Run the WordPress importer by pressing Run Importer button. You’ll get a dialogue box that allows you to Browse for a file.

Step 7: Browse for the file in the location you extracted it and Click Upload file and import

 

 

 

 

 

Step 8: Finally, click Submit and all the posts will be uploaded to your site. Check on the Posts

and you should see your posts well imported.
