Why my .ZA Domain Nameservers are not changing

It is possible to change nameservers from the Truehost Client Area. However, for .ZA domains such as .co.za, .org.za and .net.za, the change may fail to take effect. When changing the nameservers, you receive a successful message but in real sense, no change has been made to your nameservers.

This article will help you understand why this is the case and resolve the issue.

How nameserver update for .ZA domains happen

For simplicity, let us assume we want to update the nameservers of truehost.co.za. When I update the nameservers, the registry systems check if your domain has a valid zone file. If and only if the domain has a valid zone file, will you be able to update nameservers successfully.

How to add valid zone files for your domain

To add a valid zone file for your domain you simply need to host it. Below are a few scenarios that add valid zone files for your domain

  • When you purchase a hosting package for your domain
  • When you add your domain as an Addon or Alias on your existing hosting
  • When using our Olitt DNS platform, add the domain to Olitt
  • When using Cloudflare, add the domain to Cloudflare

Once a valid zone file is present, you can change your nameservers using this guide and they will be accepted. Allow 1 hr for domain propagation.
