How to move/Copy files from one folder to another on Cpanel

Once in a while, you may need to move/copy your website files from one folder to another. This guide will illustrate how this can be achieved.

Assuming you want to move files from FOLDERA of domainA/subdomainA to FOLDERB of domainB/subdomainB.

Access your Cpanel homepage, and search for domains;

The main goal of accessing the domains page is to get to the root folder of FOLDERA

Under Document Root, click on FOLDERA. This opens up the file manager, under the root folder; FOLDERA

Click on select All, to select all the files, and click on Move/copy. These are the files to be moved/copied.

On the <Enter file path that you want to move/copy this file to> , enter the path to FOLDERB, and click on <Move/copy Files>. The selected files will be moved/copied from FOLDERA to FOLDERB.

Navigate to FOLDERB to confirm if the files have been copied/moved.

What is the difference between moving files and copying files?

ANS: Copying files say from folderA to folderB, leaves a copy of the files on folderA while moving files leaves folderA empty

Can Files moved to another folder be recovered/moved back?

Files moved to another folder are not lost. These files can be moved back to the original folder. Refer to the procedure above.

Will I lose the files if I delete the files left on folderA after copying the files to folderB?

Once the files are copied from folderA to folderB, deleting files on folderA does not delete those in folderB.
