Do’s And Don’ts of Blogging You Must Know

In this article, I’ll be sharing the do’s and don’ts of blogging. If you have a blog or intend to start blogging, then you have just stumbled across the right post.

The do’s and don’ts of blogging will help you achieve your intended goals.

Let’s begin:

The Do’s of Blogging

#1 Do: Choose your Niche wisely

A niche is a specific solution that you provide to a specific person. This is one of the most important steps to take.

You have to identify and find the niche, the market, or the industry that you want to be in and profit from.

The good thing is, that we live in a world of the internet where there are millions of options to choose from. When you can attract people and build your brand in that niche, there are so many ways to monetize them.

Here are a few techniques and a few resources that you can use to choose your niche:

  • You – The niche needs to be interesting and personally passionate to you. This means it’s something you are going to dedicate many hours to research and write content about the subject matter.

Therefore, if it’s not interesting to you at all, the odds of you giving up are high.

  • Your Customer – This is a concern about who you’re going to eventually sell and recommend products to. It needs to be something that is a problem for them that you can resolve.

This can easily be done by being professional in answering questions to your customers or professionally solving problems.

A niche that is based on something that doesn’t create pain for the person is not going to have an impact.

#2. Do: Focus on your Audience

This is one of the most useful marketing exercises that you can do as a blogger. Many bloggers struggle in identifying and understanding their target audience.

You should precisely match your message to what they want to hear to make your work effective. It also transforms the performance of your blogging site.

You might need to do brainstorming just to find your target audience and get yourself familiar with what they’re like.

Here is how to do it:

  • Facebook Stalking – It will help you to profile your target audience as well as your friends. The target audience might have different personalities but we need a good level of understanding of what they like and dislike.
  • The Phone – As you make calls, you’ll begin to pick out commonalities between each of your target customers. It also helps you to build a mental image of your audience.

Here are a few questions to ask to narrow down in understanding your target audience:

  •  How old is the target customer?
  • Where does your customer live?
  • What’s your customer’s most common gender?
  • How do you promote your target audience?
  • Where do they spend their time online?
  • What type of content works best for them?

#3. Do: You Must Own a Domain

The domain name will enable your target audience to access your blogging site.

For example: truehost.cloud

Having the best domain name for your blog will require you to also have the best web hosting platform.

This way, your blog will look exceptionally professional.

Having a domain name will also:

  • Increase your connection with the target audience.
  • Make it easy for customers to locate your blogs.
  • Help in presenting your blog as a professional one.
  • Increase your Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Have a competition with similar online businesses.

#4. Do: Use SEO to Get New Readers

When we talk about SEO, we mean content for people.

They have to be compelling, valuable, and easy to read and understand to rank well on search engines.

Here are a few tips to optimize your content for search:

  • Define a focus keyword – This is the main phrase that your readers will type in google to find your content.

First, check out how many searches the chosen phrase gets per month. Then, decide if it’s a good one to rank for.

  • Understand your readers’ search intent – Every search term has a why behind it. It is what your reader wants to accomplish when they type something into the search engine.

Google can detect the readers’ search intent based on the keywords used.

Therefore, to align your content with your readers’ search intent, you need to analyze the search results for the focus keyword.

  • Use Search optimized content structure – Your content structure needs to be organized in a logical hierarchy with subheadings wrapped in H2 tags.

If there are clear sections within your H2 tags, use the H3 tag and so forth in a logical order.

Try to use keywords related to the main topic in your subheadings but don’t overuse them throughout your text.

  • Write a search-optimized meta title – Meta title is your content’s title displayed in search engine result snippets.

When writing your title, keep in mind that you need to place your keyword at the start of your title tag.

Also, keep it under 70 characters. Your title should reflect what your story is going to be about.

  • Write a search-optimized meta description – Meta description is what appears on the search under your title tag.

A well-written meta description can be the difference between getting the click and not.

Therefore, be informative, use a call to action, include a focus keyword or its synonym, and ensure your meta description is not less than 160 characters.

  • Write a search-optimized H1 tag – The H1 tag is the main heading on your page.

Make sure to place the focus keyword or its synonym at the start of your H1 tag.

  • Use the focus keyword in the first paragraph – Ideally, you want your focus keyword to appear within the first 100 words.
  • Include internal links – Always link to other pages on your website that are relevant to your content. When linking, use anchor text.

Always try to write and publish amazing content on your blog that addresses your readers’ needs and solves their problems.

This won’t only help to get your desired ranking, but also help you hit your marketing targets.

#5. Do: Monetize Your Blog

Learning how to monetize your blog is not as hard as you might think.

Here are five simple ways to monetize your blog:

  • Google Adsense – This is a Google platform that allows you to have ads on your blogging site.
  • Affiliate Programs – This is where the promotion of a product or service takes place to get paid every time you make a sale.
  • Selling Digital Products – There is an infinite amount of possibilities ranging from e-books to courses.
  • Selling your personal ad space – Adsense always acts as the middleman. If you don’t want to have a middleman then you can directly engage people that are advertising and persuade them to buy ads.
  • Sell physical products – An example of this is selling protein, supplements, and vitamins.

I would not recommend picking all the five options because it is too much for a visitor but you can pick some and use them all at once.

We are now going to see the don’ts of blogging concerning the do’s and don’ts of blogging:

The Don’ts of Blogging

#1. Don’t: Focus on Every Niche

Don’t try to appeal to everyone. If you do that then you are setting up yourself for a huge failure.

You can’t target everyone and please them at the same time.

What you should do instead is pick a certain niche and dominate it. When you start growing and getting traffic, you can slowly scale into other niches.

Therefore, the more specific the niche the better it is for you.

#2. Don’t: Force Your Ideas on Your Audience.

It is not good to push your ideas in your blog content. You should rather ask yourself whether your audience receives the messages you are sending them or not.

To make sure that you are not forcing your ideas on your audience, here are the solutions to implement:

  • Use a simple precise language.
  • Avoid acronyms.
  • Have general, thoughtful examples ready.
  • Ask your audience questions.
  • Always solve your audience’s problems according to their preference.

#3. Don’t: Write Complicated Sentences.

Here, you should employ the skill of showing and not telling. This means that you avoid simple statements that don’t add any description or flavor.

Make your writing as straightforward, welcoming, and easy as possible for your target audience to fully understand.

You can also keep them wanting for more of your blog posts by creating intensely interesting content to keep them engaged.

This will transform your writing as long as you put it into practice.

#4. Don’t: Copy Content from Other Sites

For a blog post to last and stand out, avoid plagiarism. Your target audience can easily notice plagiarized content in your blog post.

Copying content from other websites and pasting them on your own can hurt you severely.

Therefore, always strive to produce and publish original content to avoid getting penalized by Google.

#5. Don’t: Be Impatient with Traffic

Here, patience is very key. Do not have the desire to achieve more within a short period.

In rare cases, you might get traffic in a short time but it will not last for long.

Therefore, you should be focused on long-term traffic to your blog post to avoid any form of disappointment.

With time and effort, you will achieve more.

If you pay attention to these and avoid them completely, you will certainly double or even triple your chances of success against your competition.

So try as much as possible to avoid them as they will kill your progress.

Final Thoughts

With these do’s and don’ts of blogging, you will go a long way in your blogging career.

It is important to keep in contact with your target audience. Doing so will help you in achieving great success.

With your engaging and problem-solving blog post, your readers will fully understand how important your information is to them.

Hence, they will come back for more, always.
