This will apply to all sites hosted on the server by default unless a custom PHP version is set for a specific site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A windows server <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to RDP Admin Account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PHP installed on the servers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step by Step<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 1. Log in to the server remotely <\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You could use an RDP client, like <a href=\"https:\/\/remmina.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Remmina<\/a> or any other that you prefer to access RDP. Logins to the server will be provided by your server provider<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 2. Check the current default PHP version<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>OPen the command prompt and type the command below, to see the default PHP version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><strong>php -v<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will get an output like this below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"839\" height=\"133\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458.png 839w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458-300x48.png 300w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458-768x122.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We can see from the image above that the PHP version is <strong>8.1.30<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><strong>If you got an error when running the <em>php -v<\/em> command, then proceed to step 3 below, otherwise jump to step 4<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Step 3. Fix  the <code>php<\/code> is not recognized. Error, if you get it<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>You could also get an error when you run the <strong><em>php -v<\/em><\/strong> command, which says that the <code>php<\/code> is not recognized. In this case it means PHP is not in your system\u2019s <code>PATH<\/code> environment variable. You can add the appropriate PHP folder to the <code>PATH<\/code> or explicitly specify the full path to the PHP executable<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get a full path to your PHP executable. Normally they would be in this location below<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><strong>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Plesk\\Additional<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"702\" height=\"475\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-459.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15626\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-459.png 702w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-459-300x203.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 702px) 100vw, 702px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Copy a full path to one of the PHP folders, the one you prefer as the system default. You will paste this in a later step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the code below, I like below, I have taken a path to PHP8.1 executable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><strong>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Plesk\\Additional\\PleskPHP81<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you have that path, go to the search box, near the start icon, and search for <strong>Environment Variables<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on <strong>Edit System Environment Variables<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"791\" height=\"628\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-461.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15628\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-461.png 791w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-461-300x238.png 300w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-461-768x610.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 791px) 100vw, 791px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From the resulting System Properties Window, click on <strong>Environment Variables<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A new window with <strong>Environment Variables<\/strong> will pop. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under <strong>System variables<\/strong>, click on <strong>Path<\/strong>, then on <strong>Edit<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"588\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-463-1024x588.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15632\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-463-1024x588.png 1024w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-463-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-463-768x441.png 768w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-463.png 1038w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Click on <strong>New<\/strong>, to add a New Environment variable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the new variable slot, paste the full path to the PHP executable, which you had copied earlier<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once done click on OK and close all the windows by clicking on OK<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"556\" height=\"525\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-464.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15633\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-464.png 556w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-464-300x283.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 556px) 100vw, 556px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Close your open command prompt sessions and open a new session again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Type the <strong>php -v <\/strong>command again to see the current version, that you had set in the Environment variable path<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"839\" height=\"133\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15623\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458.png 839w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458-300x48.png 300w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-458-768x122.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 839px) 100vw, 839px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Step 4. Change the System PHP version<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you just hopped here from step 2, then you just had a safe landing. I suppose you had <strong>php -v<\/strong> returning a PHP version that you do not want as your system default. It could be something like this below. This part is explained in section 3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code><strong>C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Plesk\\Additional\\PleskPHP82<\/strong><\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once done click on OK and close all the windows by clicking on OK<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Path<\/strong> again, and then on <strong>Edit<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move the new PHP variable that you just added, above the one that was existing.
