{"id":15237,"date":"2024-10-16T05:14:13","date_gmt":"2024-10-16T05:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/?post_type=docs&#038;p=15237"},"modified":"2024-10-30T05:26:21","modified_gmt":"2024-10-30T05:26:21","password":"","slug":"how-to-install-moodle-manually-on-your-server-cwp-cyberpanel","status":"publish","type":"docs","link":"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-install-moodle-manually-on-your-server-cwp-cyberpanel\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Install Moodle Manually on Your Server (CWP, Cyberpanel)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Servers that run Panels like Cyberpanel or Control Web Panel may not have an auto-installer for Moodle and if you are to add an installer like Softaculous, you will be needed to pay for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your web hosting provider doesn\u2019t have an auto-installer for Moodle, follow this step-by-step guide on installing it manually. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this tutorial, we&#8217;ll use the <strong>File Manager<\/strong> in Control Web Panel (CWP), but the steps are similar across most hosting control panels, like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-install-cyberpanel-ubuntu-and-almalinux\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cyberpanel<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you start, make sure to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You need to have a panel installed on your server. I have <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/complete-guide-on-how-to-properly-install-control-web-panelcwp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CWP installed<\/a><\/strong> on my server. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need to have added a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-create-a-domain-and-subdomain-on-cwp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">domain<\/a><\/strong> name or created a <a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-create-an-addon-domain-subdomain-on-a-cwp-cpanel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>subdomain<\/strong><\/a> on your server.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your server\/domain should be running on PHP 8.1 and above. For CWP change using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-change-the-php-version-in-control-web-panel-cwp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">these steps<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-upgrade-mariadb-on-cwp-from-10-4-to-10-6-on-almalinux-8\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CWP<\/a><\/strong> or <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-upgrade-mariadb-on-cyberpanel-from-10-3-to-10-6-on-ubuntu-20-04\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cyberpanel<\/a><\/strong>, you need mariadb version 10.6.7 and above. Click the links to upgrade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You need access to the server&#8217;s Panel because you will need file manager and Database manager.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Prepare for the Moodle\u2122 Installation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you start, make sure to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download the latest Moodle\u2122 package from their <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/download.moodle.org\/releases\/latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">official Moodle website.<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upload the Moodle\u2122 files to your server, either using your web hosting control panel or an FTP client like FileZilla.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upload the file to the root directory of your moodle domain or subdomain<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> If you use CWP, access the <a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-access-cwp-main-whm-panel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">admin panel <\/a> then to to the user panel OR access user panel directly using <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-access-cwp-users-cpanel\/\">these steps<\/a><\/strong>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Database Creation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will need to access you hosing panel and create a database for moodle. Also create a user and give them access to the database. Save the database details somewhere for later use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you use <strong>CWP<\/strong>, check <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/knowledge-base\/how-to-create-a-database-in-control-web-panel-cwp\/\">these steps<\/a><\/strong> on database creation, and save the database details later use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Download Moodle and Upload to your Server<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Download the latest Moodle\u2122 package from their <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/download.moodle.org\/releases\/latest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">official Moodle website.<\/a><\/strong> The file downloads to your computer<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"627\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-337-1024x627.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-337-1024x627.png 1024w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-337-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-337-768x470.png 768w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-337.png 1237w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Upload the file to the root directory of your moodle domain or subdomain. The interface could vary depending on your hosting panel.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For <strong>CWP<\/strong> user panel,  on the left side of pane, go to&nbsp;<strong>File Management-&gt;File Manager<\/strong>&nbsp;and click on File Manager<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-zoooom\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"563\" src=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-338.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-15256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-338.png 768w, https:\/\/truehost.com\/support\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/image-338-300x220.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will see a window with the server\u2019s file system files. Since this is a user panel, you will be shown files that are in the user\u2019s home directory. We are uploading the <strong>Moodle<\/strong>  file that you had downloaded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drag and drop or select the file to upload it. Create a copy of the file and edit the database information. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carefully replace the dummy databse details with the actual database details, that you had created and saved earlier.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> Also, if you are using <strong>mysql<\/strong> or <strong>mariadb<\/strong> database, change <strong>dbtype<\/strong> from <strong>pgsql<\/strong> to <strong>mysql<\/strong> or <strong>mariadb<\/strong> respectively. Wait!  You mean all that while you mean we hadn&#8217;t even installed it?<\/strong> Well, here we go&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Access the URL of the Moodle\u2122 files in your domain. If they are located in the&nbsp;<strong>public_html<\/strong>&nbsp;folder, access it as it is:&nbsp;<strong>www.yourdomain.com<\/strong>. Scroll down to find&nbsp;<strong>Web Site Location&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Data Files Location<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Edit the&nbsp;<strong>wwwroot&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>dataroot&nbsp;<\/strong>values with your&nbsp;<strong>Web address&nbsp;<\/strong>and the Moodle&nbsp;<strong>Data directory<\/strong> according to how you have them in the above step. Choose accordingly from the drop-down.
